The Group
Aims to help trace deceased members of families employed on the canals, rivers, coastal waters of the Northern counties of England.

Our Objectives
To collect information relating to people in this specific group and geographic area

To copy or transcribe related archive material

To publish information to the widest audience using the most suitable methods

To operate on a not-for-profit basis

Our Progress
So far the personal entries recorded are mainly those of watermen on the River Aire or the Leeds and Liverpool Canal from around 1881 + those families from Brotherton and Knottingley in Yorkshire.
But progress is very slow (or non-existant) due to a lack of contributions of data or volunteers. But more importantly a total lack of funding - combined with a need to earn a living!

Considering how many were employed in this field during the 19th century this could become a major project.
